Self-Care Opportunity Sundays (S.O.S.)- Fuchsia

Self-Care Opportunity Sundays (S.O.S.) is about giving ourselves the gift of time to nourish our skin, body and soul. And to me the best form of nourishment is that which comes from nature!

There is nothing more that my skin, body and soul rejoice in, than discovering more about the amazing synergy, nutrients and life found in all that can be found on this beautiful planet. And sometimes new wonders are right under our nose, we just haven't taken the time to look a bit closer and question what benefits does this have?

As you might be able to tell by now,... I LOVE botanicals! I love gardening. Growing flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruit is my way of strengthening my connection with nature, my peaceful place in this chaotic world and the place where I can bask in the wonderment and simplicity of life. Earlier this week, I was decorating the entrance of my house for fall and needed to move my basket of shade annuals from my front yard into my back yard. Later that night, it was discovered that my 2 1/2 year old puppy was eating my plants. Afraid that this plant might be poisonous to him, we turned to Google. We soon discovered that the plant was not poisonous to him ( although might not be great for him), but also discovered that this plant has edible flowers and berries!

This plant is a Fuchsia! I have been growing this plant for years as one of my favorite shade annuals for its beautiful flowers that continue until we have a killing frost. All these years I have been cleaning up the fallen flowers and seeds (that I now know are berries). I had never taken the time to be curious about a plant that was right in front of me. Never previously questioned what more is there to this beautiful flower. This unexpected discovery has my soul and mind whirling with what I'm going to do now that I know this flower is edible and so are the berries. Now I'm collecting the berries, as I really would like to try and make some jelly and with an abundance of Vitamin C, my mind is spinning with ideas for a beauty product to showcase this amazing berry.

Here is a Fuchsia Berry Jelly recipe that I found and that I will be trying out:

1 cup Fuchsia flowers

1 cup ripe, washed Fuchsia berries

1 cup sugar

Juice of 1 lemon

2 cups of water (or apple juice)

1 apple, sweet, peeled and chopped

2 tbsp unflavored gelatin

Simmer flowers, berries, sugar, lemon juice, water and apple for 10 min. Let mixture cool a bit, then strain it. Add the gelatin and allow to thicken in refrigerator.

Some botanical benefits we just never had the time to think about. Discover the benefits in the Soul Concept featured products.

The Witch Willow Breakout Clear Toner and Witch Willow Breakout Clear Lotion both contain the botanical White Willow Bark. White Willow Bark is known  for its properties of reducing acne and excess oil, providing gentle exfoliation for more radiant skin and refining pores while minimizing pore size. White Willow Bark is a natural form of Salicylic Acid, which is a powerhouse anti-inflammatory ingredient in willow bark and is beneficial for most skin types. It helps target acne, reduce irritation (bye bye redness!), and has even shown promising results in the battle against aging. Check out more information on the botanicals in these products for more amazing discoveries!

And, the Yarrow Nourishing Ceramide Face Cream is another product, showcasing an amazing botanical, that we often consider a weed. Yarrow's most ancient use is in healing the skin. Yarrow has antimicrobial and pain relieving traits and is wonderful for soothing skin that is prone to irritations. It is also deeply nourishing and restorative. It aids in healing broken capillaries and is ideal for sensitive skin as well as problematic skin.
