The following are some skin mood classifications that may help you determine what skin Mood you have

Soothing Sensitive

For reactive and irritated skin

Characteristics (Any one or combination):

  • pustules, bumps or skin erosion

  • very, very dry  skin  (eczema)

  • tendency towards blushing and skin flushing

  • sensitivity upon contact with skin causing redness, inflammation, stinging, burning, dryness and discomfort.

Potential and Possible Causes:

  • Overly dry and/or dehydrated skin - leading to skin rashes and reactions

  • Excessive exposure to elements - such as sun and wind or excessive heat and sold

  • Allergic reactions- recurring exposure to an irritant or allergen, may result in an overactive response by the body's immune system, and may often appear as eczema, rosacea or allergic contact dermatitis

  • Overuse of chemicals/soaps/detergents - over-washing can strip natural oil, fats and nutrients, which naturally protect and keep skin hydrated, balanced and healthy

Sensitive skin is very 'sensitive' and requires patiently observing and introducing ingredients/products slowly. Sensitive skin types generally would do well with products that are moisturizing, hydrating, calming and soothing. Barring any allergies; here is a list of some typical natural ingredients that you can look for in your beauty products: Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Safflower Oil, Jojoba Oil, Cocoa Butter, Argan Oil, Olive Squalane, Glycerine, Sodium Lactate, Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides, Aloe Vera, Pomegranate, White Willow Bark, Green Tea, Chamomile, and Calendula. (This is not a complete list, but rather a sample to give some idea.)

Sebum control

For oily and/or breakout prone skin


  • Shiny, oily or slick looking skin

  • large and/or darkened pores

  • acne breakout blemishes

  • may have combination skin; oily T-Zone area, with dry and/or dehydrated cheek and eye area

Potential and/or Possible Causes

  • Overproduction of Sebum (natural oil found on skin) - typically production of sebum changes and fluctuates as hormones change and fluctuate

  • Lack of exfoliation- skin cells accumulate and contribute to clogged pores. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells to reveal new younger cells underneath, and helps to remove impurities and debris that may be clogging pores. (Important not to over-exfoliate skin, which may aggravate and inflame skin, leading to further breakouts.)

  • Overuse of chemicals/soaps/detergents- over-washing will strip the much-needed natural oils, fats and nutrients, which protect and keep skin hydrated, balanced and healthy

  • Diet and lifestyle choices - not consuming enough water, poor nutritional choices, lack and/or poor skincare rituals, excessive stress, and /or lack of regular sleep can be contributing factors to breakouts

Oily and/or breakout prone skin benefit from adopting a gentle, simple skincare ritual, with natural beauty products that nourishes and hydrates skin. Gentle cleansing, hydrating, gentle exfoliation (one to two times per week, at most), and specifically selected nourishment. Here is a sample list of natural ingredients that you can look for in beauty products: Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Green Tea, Grapeseed Oil, Hazelnut Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Glycerine, Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5),  Chamomile, Tee Tree, Frankincense, Geranium, Lactic Acid, Ground Apricot, Kaolin Clay

Intense hydration

for dry, flaky and lackluster skin


  • Flaky, scaling or dull-looking skin

  • Dehydrated, small pores

  • Itchy, irritated, sensitive, sore, red, inflamed, or cracked skin

  • May feel tight after coming into contact with water

Potential and/or Possible Causes:

  • Lower sebum production- after puberty and with age, sebum production lowers

  • Aging skin-  as skin ages, it thins, loosing moisture and becoming dry and dehydrated. This normal process may be intensified due to UV damage, biological factors (such as genetics) or mechanical aging such as continual repeated muscle movements like frowning, squinting, (and yes... even) smiling which can result in the eventual formation of wrinkles.

  • Dehydration and/or lifestyle- not consuming enough water, poor nutritional choices, lack and/or poor skincare ritual, excessive stress , and/or lack of regular sleep can all contribute to dehydrated skin

  • Damage to skin barrier - skin barrier may be damaged or removed by harsh chemicals thus creating weakness that allows water to escape

  • Overexposure to the elements and/or dry conditions- such as air-conditioning, indoor heating, hot and long showers, and outdoor elements such as sun, low-humidity conditions, wind and winter

  • Overuse of chemicals/soaps/detergents- stripping skin of natural oils, fats and nutrients which protect and keep skin hydrated and healthy

  • Sensitivity - dry skin can occur as a result of sensitivity, allergy or irritation. Common irritants include artificial  fragrances, dyes and detergents


Dry/dehydrated skin excels from a regular skincare ritual with the use of hydrating, emollient and nourishing natural products. And don't forget a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect from the damaging effects of UV rays. For mature and/or damaged skin


  • dry, dehydrated and/or rough feeling skin

  • appears wrinkled, slack and sagging, even thin and more transparent

  • fragile and possibly more sensitive or prone to irritation

  • facial features become more pronounced as in the aging process we loose fats that plump up our facial features

Potential and/or Possible Causes:

  • Intrinsic aging - chronological aging contributes to a natural loss of subcutaneous tissues, decline of sebum production, and decline of regeneration of skin cells

  • UV and environmental exposure - sunlight and/or UV radiation accelerate skin aging, such as wrinkles, photo-aging (sun spots) and intensifies dry/dehydrated skin

  • Overuse of chemicals/soaps/detergents - which strip skin of necessary natural oils, fats and nutrients that offer protection and keep skin hydrated, balanced and healthy

  • Diet and lifestyle choices - not consuming enough water, poor nutritional choices, lack and/or poor skincare rituals, smoking, excessive stress, and lack of regular sleep contribute to premature aging of skin
